How Can Your Emotions Affect Your Baby?

There is a great mind in your house and it belongs to the family member wearing one-piece and stockings on their toes. Babies are regarded as little sponges, soaking and absorbing all the information around them. According to research, babies have an awesome skill set and they can pull off surprising feats. Babies as young as 4 months old are able to recognize emotions in people’s faces.

Your baby can sense what you feel

Babies are sensitive to emotions. They can recognize a happy expression and a sad one and they can also sense what other people feel. A study shows that babies can form generalizations about other personalities and this helps them to appease someone that is angry.

How babies sense your emotions

Babies are paying attention to the emotional reactions of adults. They watch and listen to our emotions, remember how we reacted, and they will use this on how they will act in the future. Babies are emotion detectives. Although you don’t say anything while you are upset, babies can distinguish what you are feeling through non-verbal signs like touch, body language, or facial expressions.

It is beyond human understanding, but babies understand all the verbal and non-verbal signs that we are displaying. They may not talk yet, but they can surprisingly recognize emotions. It is therefore important for us to display our emotions since babies are watching the things that we are doing. Parents are considered as their role models and babies will only reflect what they sense.

What to do when you are feeling negative?

Your baby reads your facial expressions as her guide to the world. Even the most loving parents have days when caring for a baby makes them want to pull their hair out. It is normal to feel frustrated or overwhelmed by your baby from time to time. Taking a brief break from your baby when you are feeling fused will protect her from your negative emotions. Spend a minute meditating, deep breaths, calling a supportive friend, taking slow, or listening to soothing and calming music.

When babies are surrounded by positive, healthy people, they bloom. When your baby gets a lot of smiles, she feels safe and secure. Dealing with your emotions can help your baby how to handle strong feelings. Emotions are not something to be ignored.

Handling your emotions around your baby

Your facial expressions will guide, comfort, and warn her. As your baby grows, she develops the ability to read emotions based on your facial expressions. With your encouragement or caution, your baby is learning how to navigate in world. It is true that your baby doesn’t understand all of your words, but she can look at your expression and decide what to do.
